How Long Does an Oil Change Take?
If you schedule ahead, we can usually get you in and out for a basic oil change in about a half an hour or so. You’re always welcome to show up, but your wait time may be slightly longer if we have appointments ahead of yours. Oil changes are a painless, easy maintenance item, and they are the single most important thing you can do to keep your Cadillac running for a long time. Oil flows through your powertrain, lubricating your engine and helping keep your engine temperature low. Oil also keeps your engine clean. It absorbs the grime and buildup that accumulates in your powertrain, helping things run smoothly. As you pour oil in your Cadillac, you’ll notice its translucent, but as it exits, it's sludgier and darker, a product of the continents your oil has absorbed.
How Often Should I Change My Oil?
As your oil takes on more particles in your engine, it gets thicker and darker, making it more difficult for it to flow through your powertrain and function effectively. New Cadillacs typically require an oil change every 10,000 miles or once a year. Older models need an oil change every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. Your technician can advise you on how often your Cadillac should be serviced for an oil change. Without regular oil changes, you’ll start to encounter engine problems, including higher temperatures, smoke from your engine, and further issues that could lead to the complete shutdown of your powertrain.
What Type of Oil Should I Use in My Car?
Your Cadillac likely uses one of the following different types of engine oil. If you’re not sure which your vehicle takes, we’ve outlined the basics below:
- Conventional Oil: This is what most people picture when they talk about oil. It's a product made of refined crude oil, but is most often used in older powertrains.
- Full Synthetic Oil: Synthetic oil is chemically engineered to remove impurities found in conventional oil and typically lasts about 10,000 miles. It also performs better in extreme temperatures. It’s what most modern Cadillacs use, but is a more expensive product than the others listed.
- Synthetic Blend: A blend of conventional and synthetic oil that offers a middle ground in price while delivering many of the benefits of full synthetic oil.
High-Mileage Oil: Like the name suggests, this product is best used in vehicles over 75,000 miles.
